FAIR to Unveil Coalition for a Secure Driver's License on Fox PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 March 2005

Though created with the support of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) more than a year ago, FAIR Government Relations Associate Sandra Gunn emailed supporters today to "introduce" the so-called Coalition for a Secure Driver's License (www.securelicense.org) and announce the group's first big media foray.

At 7pm central time on March 16, 2005, Coalition for a Secure Driver's License (CSDL) president Amanda Bowman (an immigrant from Great Britain) will appear on the Fox News program, The O'Reilly Factor, to talk about the group and show their new TV ad. The ad, which attempts to link the September 11 hijackers to driver's license legislation, was produced by the same company that produced the infamous Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ads.

The Center for New Community's Building Democracy Initiative has been reporting on the Coalition for a Secure Driver's License since late 2003. As the Center reported in April 2004, this new formation is yet another attempt by FAIR to conceal their involvement and to give the appearance of grassroots opposition.

Though it is not listed in his biography posted on the CSDL website, CSDL chairman and founder Henry M. Buhl is also a long-time board member of FAIR. So is Alan Weeden, another CSDL board member. That makes fully one-half of the CSDL board also FAIR board members. In addition, Marti Dinerstein of the Center for Immigration Studies (a FAIR spin-off) sits on the CSDL advisory board.

The Coalition for a Secure Driver's License web address was originally created in November 2002. It was registered by Sierra Corporation, the same company that does the website for another FAIR front, the so-called United to Secure America Coalition (www.secureamerica.info ).
